Lewisburg Prison Project helps inmates who are complaining of excessive force in the special management unit at the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary. Recommendations to improve conditions are outlined and include installing cameras and providing programming opportunities, amongst other rehabilitative proposals.
Prisoners at U.S. Penitentiary at Lewisburg address the excessive force and overuse of restraints at the hands of correctional officers. Accusations of mistreatment have been on the rise since 2009 and the Lewisburg Prison Project, and other organizations, are hoping this report in addition to their involvement will improve conditions for inmates.
Lewisburg Prison Project collaborated with the community and local universities to write holiday cards to inmates. LPP Outreach Coordinator Alex Skitolsky addressed the Federal rules and regulations that allowed for this event to take place. In the process, students and local residents were reminded of the humanity of the forgotten prison population.
